"Proud my dad was a docker"

A review of Dockers Club by VERONICA BROWN written on Tuesday 1st of July 2008

Hello, I'm Veronica Brown, and a couple of my brothers and other family members went to the club on Nov.11, 2007it was a lovely tribute to the dockers and it made me proud of my dad, Sam Brown and his brothers who were dockers from Sailortown. When I was a child I used to see them all standing at the bottom of our street, which was Dock Street, and I never really thought about how hard the work was no matter how cold and wet. I remember my dad trying to dry his cap at the fire but it didn't dry, it just got steamy and it makes me sad to think that all his clothes were soaking wet but he had to work in them anyway. It's with a lot of regret that I say I didn't appreciate my dad, but really do know better now for all the dockers did backbreaking work and I don't think that kind of worker exists today. That was a very special day for us, it was very well organized and it was great to be with people with the same thing in common..
