It saddened me to read your experience at the cotton print factory shop in my home town. I feel, as a business owner myself, that the kepholder should and could have accommodated you, besides considering the long journey you made but also as a valued customer, as all customers are. I cannot see why the person in charge did not permit you to shop, if only for a limited period. There is a lot to be said about good customer relations.
